Summary Point
Why should you care to explore the truth about God?
Subpoints
There is NOTHING more important than the truth about God, since it impacts the eternal destination of your soul and how you live your life on earth – essentially, who we become in life and where we are going after death!
-
Your Eternity: If God exists, then your decision about God determines the eternal destination of your soul.
-
You could live your version of a perfect life; but, it cannot compensate for eternity in hell, if such a place exists. Life on earth is a nanosecond compared to eternity. To ignore the truth about God is foolishness.
-
In the Bible, Jesus asks: “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36, NASB)
-
-
Your Character: What we believe about God and the universe shapes who we become.
-
Our fundamental beliefs about God and the universe provide the basis what we deem true and valuable; and these beliefs drive your actions. If you believe God exists and people are made in His image, it will have an influence how you treat them. I am not saying that those who don’t believe in God will behave immorally, nor that all Christians always do what is right; BUT, it is usually a factor in who we become and consequently how we act.
-
Christian apologists William Lane Craig and J.P. Moreland make this point, “The ideas one really believes largely determine the kind of person one becomes.”1
-
-
Your Resources: What you believe about God and the afterlife impacts how you choose to use your two most precious resources – time and money.
-
How you spend your time: Your belief about God will determine whether you spend time going to church, praying, reading spiritual books and perhaps helping others. If God exists, this is time well spent; but, if God does not exist, this is a waste of time.
-
How you spend your money: Your belief about God may impact how generous you are with your finances towards other people.
-
Jesus said:
-
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21 NASB)

The apostle Paul wrote to the church of Corinth:
-
Remember this: the person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart-not out of regret or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7 CSB)

-
Your Contentment: Your belief about God may impact the quality of your life. Instead of chasing worldly passions to find happiness, true contentment in life is found in God.
-
Contentment: A relationship with God is the only thing that provides true contentment in life. Anything else provides happiness that is temporary.
-
Christian thinker Blaise Pascal wrote, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man.”2
-
Apologist Josh McDowell quotes Christian thinker Thomas Aquinas, “There is within every soul a thirst for happiness and meaning.”3
-
-
Hope: Belief in God gives hope to those who are struggling with life.
